What Parts are Involved In Injection Molding?
The plastic injection molding generally has two main units that work in tandem with one another to deliver the final finished plastic product.
The first half is the injection unit, which is basically a screw that acts as an “injection” to inject the plastic raw material into the mold. It is an Archimedes screw with turns all along its length that helps push the plastic pellets to the mold.
The second half is clamping unit, is the part that molds the molten plastic into the desired shape. Clamping unit helps mold to open and close to produce and eject plastic part.
Thus plastic injection molding follows a simple concept while applying sophisticated machinery.
How Does Plastic Injection Molding Work?
The screw sub-mechanism has an inlet at its top from where they drop the plastic pellets. These pellets are pushed forward by the turns on the screw body. The pellets are also heated by the heaters that cover the tube that encases the injection screw. The screw has check ring in front of it that prevent the molten plastic from escaping back to the screw body.
The molten plastic gets injected into the mold and forms the desired shape. The mold has air vents that allows air to go out when plastic melt enters in to the mold
After the shape molding, the clamp unit opens the mold, and the plastic part is ejected from the mold.
